What This Project Demonstrates
This launch shows my ability to:
- Understand a highly technical product
- Interview engineers and technical experts
- Translate engineering capabilities into customer value
- Build a coherent product narrative
- Coordinate a multichannel launch
- Support Sales and proposal teams
- Work across marketing, engineering, leadership, and business development
- Create content for both technical and executive audiences
- Connect product marketing with long-cycle aerospace and government opportunities
The Challenge
The product was technically strong, but its value was difficult to explain outside a narrow engineering audience.
Potential customers needed to understand:
- Why conventional networking components may not be suitable for space
- How radiation affects electronics
- Why FPGA-based Ethernet switching matters
- How the product could reduce development risk
- Where it could fit into spacecraft and mission architectures
- Why the company was qualified to support advanced space programs
The launch also needed to serve several purposes at once. It had to build market awareness, support sales conversations, strengthen government proposals, establish technical credibility, and provide reusable content for future campaigns.
Audience and Insight
The primary audiences included:
- Aerospace and defense engineers
- Spacecraft system architects
- Government program managers
- Prime contractors
- Research organizations
- Technical procurement teams
- Companies developing satellites and other space platforms
Each audience required a different level of detail. Engineers needed technical specificity. Program managers needed confidence in risk, schedule, and mission relevance. Business and procurement stakeholders needed a clear explanation of the product’s practical value.
Positioning and Strategy
I helped frame the product around the needs of space system developers rather than presenting it as a list of technical specifications.
The core narrative connected the technology to several customer priorities:
- Reliable Ethernet networking in radiation-heavy environments
- Reduced risk in spacecraft network design
- Support for smaller and more integrated systems
- FPGA flexibility for specialized mission requirements
- A development path suited to aerospace and defense programs
- Access to embedded systems expertise beyond the component itself
The messaging needed to preserve technical accuracy while remaining useful to decision-makers who were not directly involved in FPGA design.
Launch Strategy
I supported a multichannel launch plan designed to introduce the product, educate the market, and create assets that Sales and proposal teams could continue using.
The launch content was organized so that each asset reinforced the same core narrative while addressing a different stage of the buying process.
- Awareness content explained the problem.
- Technical content supported evaluation.
- Sales materials connected the product to specific program needs.
- Proposal content demonstrated relevance to government and aerospace opportunities.
Execution
I developed and coordinated content that made the product accessible to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
This work included:
- Product overview copy
- Technical web content
- Launch announcements
- Press release development
- Media outreach
- Social media copy
- Email campaign content
- Sales presentation materials
- Proposal narratives
- Supporting content for internal and external stakeholders
Media outreach helped extend the launch beyond the company’s existing audience and positioned the company as a credible contributor to the space systems market.
Where technical claims required additional context, I worked with engineering stakeholders to verify the language and preserve accuracy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
The launch required coordination across several functions.
I worked with:
- Engineers to understand the architecture and validate technical claims
- Product and company leaders to define market priorities
- Sales teams to identify customer concerns and useful enablement materials
- Proposal teams to adapt the product narrative for government opportunities
- External media contacts to expand visibility
- Marketing stakeholders to coordinate web, email, social, and launch timing
This collaboration helped keep the product story consistent across technical documentation, marketing content, media coverage, sales discussions, and proposals.
Results
The launch created a coordinated market presence for Space Switch on a Chip and gave the company a stronger platform for discussing space networking with aerospace and government audiences.
The work:
- Supported the formal product launch
- Generated media visibility
- Produced reusable sales and marketing materials
- Strengthened technical proposal content
- Improved the clarity of the product’s market positioning
- Supported conversations with aerospace, defense, and government stakeholders
The product and related proposal work contributed to an SBIR relationship supporting NASA space programs, including Artemis missions, later leading to a multimillion-dollar follow-on contracts.
Lessons and Continued Impact
The company needed to introduce a space-grade networking product to a highly technical and risk-conscious market. I supported the launch strategy and execution, developed the product narrative, created campaign and sales content, coordinated media outreach, and helped connect the product to aerospace and government opportunities.
The result was a clearer market position, stronger launch visibility, reusable sales and proposal assets, and support for future space program engagement.
